Historic Sites

If you're a history buff, then Columbia, TN is the place for you. Home of the 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk, Columbia is home to a vast amount of historical sites and museums. In downtown Columbia, the James K. Polk Home & Museum (8.9 mi away) is a great place to learn about the life and history of one of our Presidents. Just down the street from the Polk Museum is the Athenaeum Rectory (9.2 mi). Built in 1837, the former rectory is now a museum dedicated to the history of the two all-girl schools it served. 

Civil War buffs will love following the trail of Hood's Campaign of 1864. Different site markers show events that took place in and around Columbia. 

Other historic sites include Rippavilla Plantation(13.8 mi away), a home with a rich history, and Rally Hill Manor (9.1 mi away) which is famous for troops rallying before marching to Louisiana during the War of 1812. 

Downtown Columbia

In addition to the multitude of historical sites in and around Columbia, the town hosts a number of other wonderful attractions as well. St. Peter's Episcopal Church (9 mi) is an architectural beauty with a rich history of its own. 

Be sure to check out Columbia's Historic Town Square (8.9 mi away), which hosts different events throughout the year. If you're lucky enough to be in Columbia for the first Friday of the month, check out "First Fridays" downtown at the square and enjoy the live music and shopping deals.
